Suzanne
Tate spent her childhood on a farm in Ohio. After attending college
she moved to the Outer Banks in North Carolina where she has lived
for 40 years. During that time she has taught elementary school
and worked as a ranger and historian for the National Park Service.
Her children's books, which celebrate the inhabitants of the Atlantic
Ocean and North Carolina's History have won national recognition
as well as two Children's Choice Awards. Her delightful stories
of sea creatures, their struggles and man's need to protect the
ocean's fragile balance bring out the environmentalist in even
the youngest readers. The books' simple, educational text and
bright illustrations grow with a child as they transition from
listening to the stories to reading them independently. Tate's
entire nature book series makes a great addition to any children's
book collection
