Margy
Burns Knight lives in Winthrop, Maine, with her husband and two
children. She has taught English as a Second Language with the
Peace Corps in Benin, Africa, in Switzerland, and in various locations
in Maine, and has taught social studies and history.
Anne
Sibley O'Brien spent most of her childhood in Korea as the daughter
of medical missionaries. She now lives on Peaks Island, Maine
with her husband and two children. Margy and Anne are both active
in diversity education at schools and educational conferences
across the country.
Since
the 1992 publication of their first award-winning book (Talking
Walls), Margy Burns Knight and Anne Sibley O'Brien have become
respected names in multicultural publishing and diversity education.
In 1997 they received the National Education Association's Author-Illustrator
Human and Civil Rights Award for their work. Their books broaden
our understanding of other cultures and teach empathy, compassion,
and tolerance in a nonjudgmental way. They show children that
each of us
has a story to tell and a heritage worth preserving.
